The partners in the Xstrata-Merafe ferrochrome joint venture announced yesterday evening its figures for the first half. The net profit of the company was able to write on the back of good sales of the joint venture with Xstrata back in the black. The ferrochrome price rose by 16 percent in the first half.
Merafe Resources posted a net profit of 188.7 million rand (25.781 million USD). In the same period last year, the company still had to chalk up a loss of 84.2 million rand.
Turnover increased by 44.6 percent to 1.2 billion Rand.
